If you have psoriasis or someone in your families past has been diagnosed with psoriasis
then you are very likely to also have or get what is called nail psoriasis. There is no
known reason as to why people get nail psoriasis but it has been linked to heredity.
If you or someone in your family has been diagnosed with psoriasis then you need to tell
your doctor, otherwise nail psoriasis is hard to diagnose.
Symptoms of nail psoriasis include a wide range of things to look for including discoloring
that looks like a little oil or a drop of blood under the nail, pits in your nails,
lines running side to side as oppose to cuticle to tip, nail thickening, if the nail
gets loose all over or in areas, if you notice crumbling of the nail, or little black
lines in your nails, redness, and even arthritis of the fingers with or during other
symptoms.
It's important to see your doctor if you think you have nail pitting psoriasis, discoloration,
or if you have pain and infection. If the nail changes in psoriasis cases after diagnosis then
you should return to your doctor.
Are you curious as to how to treat nail psoriasis? Most of the time your doctor will know
instantly if you have nail psoriasis but sometimes he may want to biopsy the skin under your
nail to be certain of nail bed psoriasis.
Currently there are no known psoriasis nail treatments. So the main goal of nail psoriasis
treatment lies in the doctor's ability to improve nail function and appearance especially if
it becomes psoriasis nail pitting that can become painful.
If you think you may have nail psoriasis then you should look up psoriasis nail pictures on
your computer or ask your doctor to let you see pictures for comparison.
